The objective is to create a strong suction side branch of the horseshoe vortex, causing it to interact with a vortex from the main passage of the opposite rotational direction, and move it away from the suction side profile boundary layer.
The geometries represented by T106/1 and T106/2 have a more pronounced bulb on the suction side.
A stronger suction side bulb intensifies the desired horseshoe vortex locally.
Measured distributions of the exit flow angle reflect distortion due to the main channel vortex toward the suction side close to the end wall and toward the pressure side away from the wall.
The profile boundary layer cannot be modeled exactly, because the pressure side is usually laminar, as also a part of the suction side of the layer at the front.
